Salt is an essential nutrient for animals consuming vegetable feeds (forage, silage, hay, straw, cereal grains) that contain insufficient amounts of sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl). Both minerals are necessary to maintain the ionic balance of animal body fluids.
For dairy cows, salt intake from licks is a precondition for subsequent consumption of adequate amounts of forage, which enables to achieve the cow’s full milk production potential.
Animals consume the licks by licking them. To ensure salt intake is adequate for a given group of animals, licks should be available “at will”. This will not result in excessive salt intake that would be a threat to animal life or health. Once the sodium and chlorine needs are met, the animals will only lick the amount of salt that meets those needs.
Its main purpose is to meet the sodium and chlorine requirements of animals.
Used as a supplement for sodium deficiency and in the feeding of animals kept in regions with copper and cobalt deficiencies. The Mineral Block Basic Plus lick is also recommended in situations where feed rations contain ingredients antagonistic to copper and cobalt, thus impeding the absorption of these nutrients from the gastrointestinal tract.
Recommended as a food supplement to replenish salt and trace elements, i.e. zinc, manganese, magnesium, iodine, selenium and cobalt. The Mineral Block Max lick is recommended for feeding animals in regions with iodine and cobalt deficiencies. (In practice, this applies to most animals kept in Poland).
